For untold generations, this volcanic peak quietly fumed in the depths of the Neverwinter Wood. However, around ten years ago, it unexpectedly erupted, laying waste to the wood around it, and destroying many settlements in the region. The village of Thundertree was decimated. Neverwinter (over 30 miles away) was particularly affected and was left in ruins; its inhabitants fled for their lives into neighboring towns and villages, or ran as far away as they could.
It still fumes today, and it is said that fire elementals live beneath it, keeping the volcano constantly on edge and giving heat to the Neverwinter River – which is so warm it prevents the city of Neverwinter from ever freezing over or seeing true winter – for which the city takes its name.
